Welding classes teach students how to use weld in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions. Over the course of a welding program, the classes familiarize students with the procedures and equipment required to weld with gas metal arcs (GMAW), shielded metal arcs (SMAW), and flux-core arcs.
In addition to learning proper procedures and use of equipment, welding classes may also teach students how to weld in fixed, rolling, and underground positions used for the fabrication of plates, pipes, and other important parts. Underwater welders must learn additional skills required for diving and working below the surface.
